James "Big Jim" "Horsefly" Maras

James H. “Big Jim” “Horsefly” Maras, of Vienna, Ohio, passed away from an extended illness at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. He was 79.

Jim was born on July 17, 1939, in Warren, Ohio, a son to Maurice F. and Mary (Vorkapitch) Maras.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and had worked as a Die Maker for the Fab Plant of General Motors, Lordstown, Ohio, before retiring after 36 years of service to the company.

He was a member of United Auto Workers Local #1714 and a 1958 graduate from Howland High School.

To say that Big Jim was “hard headed” or “set in his ways” is actually an understatement. He had a unique way to handle every situation. If he liked you, then consider yourself lucky. He loved to debate anyone in conversation and never backed down from his opinion. However, he did care for those he was close to, even though at times he never expressed it.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watch repair and working on his computers.

His survivors include: wife, Clara Jane (Pinkerton) Maras, whom he married April 12, 1968; daughter, Mary Jane Maras, McDonald, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeremy Kibler, Brittany Maras, James Dylan Maras (Kourtnie Lichty), Sydney Carr, & Gavin Carr; great-grandchildren, Tristan, JT, Landon, Aurora, & Dylan James; nephew, Eddie Maras; and his extended family too.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his son, Terry Maras, by his daughter, Lelia Carr; by his brother, Ed Maras; and by his son-in-law, Victor Dean.

A time of gathering to remember Jim will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 12-2 PM, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, located at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403.
