Aileen Belus

Aileen M. Belus, of Brookfield, Ohio, went home on Monday, December 2, 2019 while under Hospice care in her daughter’s home in Moreland Hills, Ohio, following a period of declining health. She was 91.

Aileen was born at home in Brookfield, on May 3, 1928, a daughter to Kenneth & Elizabeth M. (Jones) Meeker-Couts.

She graduated as valedictorian from Brookfield High School in 1946 and furthered her education by graduating from nursing school through the Youngstown Hospital Association in 1949. Furthermore, she received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Youngstown College, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1954.

Her career as a registered nurse covered over 31 years of dedicated service to the wellness of her patients. In 1981, she officially retired from Northside Hospital holding the title of Associate Director of Nursing.

Her memberships included: St. John’s Episcopal Church, Sharon, Pennsylvania; Daughters of the American Revolution Mary Chesney Chapter, Colonial Dames, and Daughters of the American Colonist, all located in Warren, Ohio; and the Miriam Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Youngstown, Ohio.

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and traveling to Florida. She was also a big lover of animals. But most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include: her husband of almost 70 years, Paul J. Belus, whom she married December 8, 1949; her daughter, Paula Stepnick (Edward Kasicki), Moreland Hills; her grandson, Geoffrey R. Stepnick (Melody Ford); and her granddaughter, Elisabeth N. (Seth) Battles.

A time of gathering to honor Mrs. Belus will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 12-3 PM in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, located in the historic district of the village green at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. Her celebration continues with a funeral service at 3:00 pm. She will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery, Sharon.
