William “Bill” S. Wilson, of Brookfield, Ohio, peacefully passed away at 6:30 AM Saturday, May 18, 2019, with his family by his side, and while under hospice care, at Washington Square, Warren, Ohio, following a period of declining health. He was 87.
Bill was born April 28, 1932, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son to Ralph W. & Helen (Frew) Wilson.
He was a 1951 graduate from Sharon High School and had enlisted with the U.S. Army. Self was forgotten the day that Bill left his home to defend our country’s freedom during the Korean Conflict. He was a light weapons infantryman who was last assigned to Company E, 11th Infantry, Fort Ord, California. His decorations and citations included: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, and a Sharpshooter Badge with rifle bar.
Following his honorable discharge, he furthered his education at Youngstown College.
Bill worked as a Machine Operator for Commercial Intertech, Youngstown, Ohio, retiring after 27 years of service to the company. In addition, he worked as a custodian & bus driver for Brookfield Local School District.
Bill was a former member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Sharon, and belonged to the Buhl Club.
In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and volleyball.
Survivors include: his children, Tina M. Wilson, Brookfield, Guy A. Himilla, Seattle, Washington, Connie Korsmaros (Barry), Clearwater, Florida, and Billie Hernandes, Texas; his six grandchildren; his four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Nancy Templeton, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, and Judy Stiver, Omaha, Texas; and his beloved pup-pup, Sam.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Avery Faye Hatton; and brothers, Charles & Eric Wilson.
A time of gathering to honor Bill’s life will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019, from 4-6 PM, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, located at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. His celebration continues with a service at 6:00 PM in the funeral home.
As suggested by his family, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
