Thomas Joseph McFarland, longtime resident of Masury, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, following a sudden illness. He was 88.
Thomas was born on December 16, 1937, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son to William Glen & Anna Gertrude (Hoban) McFarland.
He graduated from Sharon High School in 1955. Following graduation, he enlisted with the U.S. Army to defend our flag and to help keep our country free. He was assigned to Company A, 12th Battalion, 3rd Training Regiment at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was honorably discharged from his duties with a rank of Private, E-2.
Upon his return home, Tom landed a position as a welder for G.A.T.X., where he worked for 23 years until the plant closed. He then became a caretaker at the Concorde Apartments, owned by the Donofrio family.
He attended the former Masury United Methodist Church and was a member of the Brookfield Conservation Club.
In his spare time, he enjoyed going to car shows, showing his corvette, tinkering around the house, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include: his sons, Michael K. McFarland (Wendy), Timothy G. McFarland (Dawn), Glen T. McFarland; grandchildren, Rachele McFarland (Lawrence Armand), SGT Joseph McFarland, SGT Alex McFarland (Ashley), Caleb McFarland, Trinity McFarland, Bryce McFarland, and Lauren McFarland; great-grandchildren, Colt, Connor, Jaycee, & Emma McFarland; and former wife, Nancy (Faber) McFarland.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean (King) McFarland, who he married October 24, 2001, she passed on March 23, 2015; and brothers, William Glen McFarland, Jr. & Edward Charles McFarland.
A private service was held for his family. He was laid to rest in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
