Thomas Galati

June 2, 1948 — August 24, 2018

Thomas A. Galati, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, formerly of Masury, Ohio, passed away at 4:25 AM Friday, August 24, 2018, while at home and under hospice care, following an extended illness. He was 70.

Tom was born June 2, 1948, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son to Frank P. & Ann M. (Maiorana) Galati, Sr.

He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1967 and in the spring of the following year, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy. Self was forgotten the day that he left his home to defend our flag and help keep our country free during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a proud veteran who began his term of service on April 5, 1968. His primary assignment was Motor Vehicle Mechanic. His decorations and citations include: National Defense Service Medal and an Expert Rifleman Medal. He was honorably discharged from his duties on September 19, 1969.

A Millwright by trade, he worked for Youngstown Steel Tank and later for Duferco Steel, formerly Sharon Steel, before he officially retired.

Tom was a member of the United Steel Workers and was Catholic by Faith.

In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, doing yardwork, and playing golf. In addition, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Survivors include: his wife, Rita M. (Adamo) Galati, whom he married August 16, 1969 while on leave from the service; his children, Ann M. Fraley & her companion, Scott Thompson, Brookfield, Ohio, Nicole L. Boal & her husband, Blair, Hermitage, and Thomas A. Galati, II, Hermitage; his grandchildren, Ricky Fraley & his companion, Anna Waters, Brandon Fraley & his companion, Natalie Cleland, Nathan Boal, and Ashton Boal; his great-grandsons, Landon and Conner Fraley; his siblings, Patricia V. Fuller & her husband Steve, Vienna, Ohio, and Frank P. Galati, Jr. and his companion, Maggie Iancino, Hartford, Ohio; his best friends, Danny & Tad; and his favorite dog, Gage.

His parents preceded him in death.

A Requiem Mass to honor of Tom will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018, at 11:00 AM, in the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, 291 Scoville Rd., Vienna, Ohio 44473.
