Shirley Van Slyke

August 13, 1935 — July 21, 2017

Shirley Van Slyke, of Masury, Ohio, passed from this life at 10:00 PM on Friday, July 21, 2017, while a patient in Orange Village Care Center, Masury, following an extended illness. She was 81.

Shirley was born August 13, 1935, at home in Masury, a daughter to Abraham & Laurabelle (Rickert) Haynie.

A 1953 graduate of Brookfield High School, she found employment working as a wire harness assembler for Packard Electric, Warren, Ohio. She retired in 1985 after 30 years of service to this vocation.

Among her memberships are the Brookfield Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star #518, Hartford, Ohio, and the Red Hat Society. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping, farming, canning, and crocheting.

Shirley will be best remembered for her contagious smile, kind heart, and her devotion to her family and friends.

She is survived by: her sister, Flora E (Dan) Smith, Brookfield, Ohio; her brother, James "Jim" E. Haynie (Penny), Liberty Twp., Ohio and her nieces & nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husbands, Duane Christy & Allan Van Slyke; her brother, William F. Haynie; and her sister, Rose Moffett.

A time of gathering in honor of Shirley will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, from 2 to 4 PM, in the Brookfield Christian Church, located on the Historic Village Green of Brookfield Center. Her celebration continues with a funeral service at 4:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
