Rosemary Martin

July 26, 1921 — June 1, 2015

Rosemary Anne Martin, 93, of Massillon, passed away at 8:50p.m., Monday, June 1, 2015, at Altercare of Nobles Pond surrounded by her loving family.  The oldest of 10 children, she was born in Summitville, Ohio on July 26, 1921 to Joseph R. and Mary C. (Wargo) Briceland.  A 1939 graduate of Mount Marie Academy (now Central Catholic) where she was an attendant of the May Queen Court. She continued her education at Canton Business College and worked in the Mechanical and Engineering Department at the former Republic Steel until starting a family.

A member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, she was a lover of nature, an avid gardener and enjoyed many years as a member of Tuslaw Garden Club.  Rosemary also loved sports and enjoyed bowling in her younger days chalking up several 600 series.  She was an enthusiastic Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan, knew players and their stats and celebrated her 80th birthday at an Indians game.  Those who knew her knew she was also the world’s biggest Massillon Tiger fan and attended games well into her 80’s.  Rosemary also volunteered at Mercy Medical Center and was a Committee Precinct Chairman for the Stark County Board of Elections.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Albert Martin and her sister Martina Radford and brothers Joseph, Charles, James and William Briceland.  She is survived by her children, Denise Merrell (Jim) of Jackson Township, Albert Martin, Jr. of North Lawrence, Donald Martin and Angel Nodo of Massillon, Rosemary Bordman (Rod) of Norwalk and step-son Ronald Martin (Linda)of Mentor. She is also survived by grandson, Matthew Martin (Brittany D’Amico) of Chardon and granddaughter Kathleen Hahn (Levi) of Omaha, Nebraska and one great-granddaughter, Leighton Hahn.

Survivors also include sisters Valeria Brown of Summitville, Vernita Ocel of Mechanicstown, Frances Wilson of Sherrodsville, and brother and sister-in-law Jack and Carol Briceland of Pikeville, Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Friday from 6-8 pm at Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Massillon with the Rev. Fr. Brian Cline officiating. Interment will follow at Brookfield Cemetery.
