Rose Marie Sankey of Masury, Ohio passed away Sunday afternoon March 27, 2016 under the care of Hospice of the Valley and surrounded by her family. She was born June 21, 1928 at home in Hubbard, Ohio a daughter of John & Mary (Carsone) Palmier.
She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1946, but had previously attended Brookfield Local Schools for grades 1-11. After graduation, she saw a work career that took her to several different types of jobs. The job that she was the most proud of doing was being a "Rosie the Riveter" at the former General Fireproofing of Youngstown, Ohio.
She married Raymond Sankey on May 17, 1958. She had met him on the day he returned from his service with the United States Marine Corps. He survives at home.
Rose Marie was an avid reader, enjoying 100's of books over the years. She also enjoyed collecting frogs and teapots of all kinds. She was an amazing cook, able to create just about anything in her kitchen, much to the delight of her family, relatives and friends. She had an absolute love for animals of all kinds, dogs and cats being her favorite. When her daughters were younger, she always found time to support their school activities, this carried over to the activities her granddaughters were a part of also.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Karen Sankey of Brookfield, Janet Sankey of Masury, and Diane Taylor, wife of Brian of Mercer, Pennsylvania. Her two granddaughters, Erica and Megan Taylor complete the family circle. Two sisters, Jenny Palmier and Lucille Gibboney of Hubbard also survive along with several nieces and nephews. Her cats, Lily and Oliver and her "grand dog" Archie will miss her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Pat and Frank; and a sister Ruth Wilson.
Rose Marie was a truly loving, caring Wife, Mother and Grandma who will be greatly missed by all who loved her. To honor Rose Marie's memory and her love for cats and dogs, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in her name to Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, 812 Youngstown-Kingsville Road SE, Vienna, Ohio 44473.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 5-8 PM at Briceland Funeral Home, 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. Funeral will take place at the funeral home Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
