Tribute for Robert L. Montgomery
June 26, 1949 – August 12, 2021
Robert L. Montgomery, affectionately known as “Farmer” or “Hawk” by his family and friends, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021, with his wife and daughters by his side, following an exacerbation of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was 72.
Robert was born June 26, 1949, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son of William L. and Thelma P. (McLane) Montgomery. He was a lifelong resident of Brookfield.
He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1968. He left home to defend our flag and to help keep our country free when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. After receiving an honorable discharge, he came home, met and married Colleen J. Wren. They married on September 28, 1973, and together started a family. Born to this union were two daughters: Jane and Ellen.
“Hawk” supported his family by working for the Ball Corporation, Hubbard, Ohio. He dedicated 40 years of service to the company before retiring. In his spare time, “Farmer” loved gardening, training his horses, caring for many other animals around the farm, and fishing in his pond. However, spending time with the people he loved, especially his four grandchildren and best friend Michael, is what he treasured most. Hawk exemplified unconditional love and care for others.
Survivors include: his wife, Colleen; his daughters, Jane M. Ball (David), of McKean, Pennsylvania, and Ellen N. Perry (Matthew), of Hermitage, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Allison, William, Matthew, and Maryellen; his siblings Sandra Marcella, of Brookfield, Barb Huston, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Linda Nehlen, of Brookfield, and Mary Jane Cybak (Edward) of Brookfield; as well as his lifelong friends Michael Syersak and Sam Gibson.
His parents preceded him in death.
Robert’s final act of kindness was of himself. As an organ donor, his last act was to help those in need.
In accordance with his wishes, no calling hours or services will be held.
