Robert Joseph Brown, Sr.

Robert Joseph Brown, Sr., of Sharon, Pennsylvania, transitioned from this life on Thursday, August 21, 2025, while a patient at UPMC – Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following an extended illness. He was 81.

Robert was born May 17, 1944, in Farrell, Pennsylvania, a son to Robert and Eloise (Taylor) Brown.

“Man Brown” as he was affectionately called, worked at several of the valley steel plants including Sharon Tube, Wheatland Tube, and Malleable, to name a few. However, he may be best remembered as a self-employed auto mechanic and a custodian at Youngstown State University.

He was a former member of Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, Youngstown, Ohio.

In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, dancing, roller skating, and having deep conversations.

Mourning his loss are his sisters, Roberta Brown, of Warren, Ohio, and Edith Brown, of Boardman, Ohio; Gayle Hill, mother of 5 of his 8 children; his children, Robert Joseph Brown, Jr. (Joanne), Laverne Harmon (Timmie), Carrie Washington (Michael Brown), all of Youngstown, Mary Brown (Sean Bloxson), of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, Camia Barrington, of Youngstown, Roberta Barrington, and Precious Barrington, both of Farrell; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews; a special niece, Priscilla Wells (William); and best friends, George, Dave, and Albert.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Eloise Mitchell; and siblings, Ronald Brown, Charlotte Gibson, and Rosie Brown.

A time of gathering to honor Robert will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 11:00-1:00 PM, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, located at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403.
