Richard “Rich” J. Furillo, Sr., of Brookfield, Ohio, entered into eternal rest at 9:25 PM Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at home while surrounded by his family, following a period of declining health. He was 78.
Rich was born in Youngstown, Ohio on October 10, 1939, a son to James Vincent and Mary (Cross) Furillo.
A 1958 graduate of Brookfield High School, he found employment with Sharon Steel where he worked as a millwright until he retired after 29 years of service to the company.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers, Moose Lodge, and the Farrell Italian Home; and a former member of the St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Masury, Ohio, Jerusalem Lodge #19 F&AM, Hartford, Ohio, and the Ancient and Accepted Order of Scottish Rite, Valley of Youngstown.
In his spare time, he enjoyed participating and attending car shows, especially hot rods, taking care of his garden, doing yard work, and jitterbug dancing whenever he could. He was given the nickname “Italian Termite” for his profound love to cut down trees. However, spending time with his family meant the most to him.
Survivors include: his sons, Richard J. Furillo (Vera), Broadview Heights, Ohio, Mark A. Furillo, Brookfield, and Matthew V. Furillo (Rosa), Lansing, Illinois; his grandchildren, Bradley and Emily Furillo, Johnny MacDonald, Carmen and Mario Furillo, Molly, Nicholas, and Vincent Furillo, Christina and Michael Frigo; and his great-grandson, Jackson Furillo; his brother, Robert Furillo, Richmond, VA; his former wife, best friend and caregiver, Beverlee Furillo; his many nieces and nephews; and lastly Snowflake, his loved and loyal golden retriever who never left his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his sisters, Elizabeth Jane Coughenour and Jacqueline "Jackie" Jones.
