Richard "Pappy" Kroner, Sr.

December 28, 1929 — December 8, 2016

Richard “Pappy” W. Kroner, Sr., of Brookfield, Ohio, peacefully entered the Celestial Lodge above at 4:40 PM Thursday, December 8, 2016, at home surrounded by his family following a period of declining health. He was 86.

Richard was born at home in Brookfield, on December 28, 1929, a son to John & Susanna (Lutsch) Kroner.

A 1947 graduate of Brookfield High School, he was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorable discharged from his duties in 1952.

He married a gal by the name of Mae Jackson on July 9, 1952. Together they started a family and born to this union were five sons, Richard Jr., Robert, Randy, Roger, and Ronald.

Richard supported his family by working various jobs but mainly at the Brookfield Post Office as a mail carrier where he retired after 30 years of service.

His memberships included: the First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, Ohio, where he was an Ordained Elder and Deacon; Jerusalem Lodge #19 F&AM, Hartford, Ohio, where he was a Past Master; 32 Degree Mason of the Ancient Accepted Order of Scottish Rite, Valley of Youngstown, Ohio; and Captain for the Warren Commandery #39 of the Knights Templar, where he was a Cross of Honor Recipient 2003-2004.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing softball, farming, and umpiring Brookfield Little League Baseball. He was very proud to have obtained his pilot’s license.

He is survived by his wife Mae; his sons, Richard W. Kroner, Jr. & his wife Francine, Brookfield, Robert E. Kroner, Boardman, Ohio, Randy M. Kroner & his wife Jo Anne, Transfer, Pennsylvania, Roger A. Kroner, Brookfield, and Ronald E. Kroner & his wife Virginia "Gin", Brookfield; his grandsons, Craig, Ron Jr., & Kenny Kroner; his sisters, Rose Morrison, Michigan, and Helen Bayus, Brookfield; as well as his extended family too.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Edward, George & Mike Kroner; his half-sister, Marie Holt; and his grandson, James Kroner.

A time of Gathering will be held in Richard’s honor on Monday, December 12, 2016, from 4-7 PM at Briceland Funeral Service, located on the historic village green at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, and from 11-12 PM Tuesday followed by his service beginning at 12 PM also at the funeral home. Both Masonic and Military Honors will be rendered. He will be laid to rest in Brookfield Township Cemetery.

As suggested by his family, memorial contributions can be made to the Warren Family Mission, Jerusalem Lodge, or the First Presbyterian Church, all c/o the funeral home.

A special heartfelt thank you is extended from his family to Richard’s caregivers during his illness.
