Raymond “Ron” R. Candor, of Masury, Ohio, was received by his beloved wife, Evelyn, in Heaven late Friday evening, January 26, 2024, following a brief illness. He was 87.

Raymond was born June 25, 1936, at home in Hubbard, Ohio, a son to Michael F. & Anna M. (Shedlock) Candor.

After graduating from Brookfield High School in 1954, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy to protect our flag and to help keep our country free. He was assigned to the USS Wilhoite #397 Destroyer and achieved the rank of IC-1, Interior Communications Electrician.

Following his honorable discharge in 1958, he married the love of his life, Evelyn June Kijowski. They exchanged vows on October 9, 1965 in St. Bernadette Catholic Church, united by Father Kolp, and together started a family. To this union four children were born: Denise, Mark, Greg, & Gary.

He provided for his family by working as a repairman at G.A.T.X. until the plant closed in Masury. He was then employed by Sears and Penn-Ohio Electric, before officially retiring.

Ron was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Vienna, Ohio, and the former Knights of Columbus Council, Masury.

In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering around the house. He could repair anything. He also loved cars, hunting, fishing, and Nascar racing. However, he may be best remembered as the “neighborhood repairman” who never expected payment for his service. He absolutely adored his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Bops”.

Survivors include: children, Denise M. Courtwright (James), of North East, Pennsylvania, Mark A. "Moose" Candor, Greg E. Candor, both of Masury, and Gary C. Candor, of Cortland, Ohio; grandchildren, Zane & Reid Courtwright, Caden Drew Candor, Braeden, Katarina, Grayson, & Zarina Candor; and sister, Lois J. Missik, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, who passed August 31, 2015.

A time of gathering to honor Raymond’s life will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 3-6 PM, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, located at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, Monday, February 5, 2024, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4453 Warren-Sharon Rd., Vienna, Ohio 44473.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Welfare League, 812 Youngstown-Kingsville Rd., SE, Vienna, Ohio 44473.
