Ora "Oddie" Summerfield

September 13, 1938 — March 28, 2015

Ora O. “Oddie” Summerfield, Sr., of Vienna, Ohio, entered eternal peace at 5:57 am Saturday, March 28, 2015, while at home and surrounded by the love of his family following a period of declining health. He was 76.

Ora was born September 13, 1938, in Cornstalk, West Virginia, a son to Ora Etta & Virginia Iva (Crookshanks) Summerfield.

A 1957 graduate of West Portsmouth High School, West Portsmouth, Ohio, Oddie fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Frances Callihan, and they joined hands in matrimony on June 28, 1958.

Together, Oddie and Frances started a family. Born to this union were three sons, Ora Jr. “Sam”, Timothy, & Rodney.

He supported his young family by finding employment with General Motors Corp., Lordstown, Ohio as a Steam Engineer and later as a Truck Repairman.

His memberships included: the First Baptist Church of Girard, where he was the chairman of the Trustees as well as an Usher; and the United Auto Workers Local #1112.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, farming, gardening, woodworking, and giving a helping hand to anyone in need. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by: his bride, Frances; his sons, Ora O. “Sam” Summerfield, Jr., & his wife Karen, Howland, Ohio, Timothy L. Summerfield, Berryville, VA, and Rodney J. Summerfield, Liberty Twp., Ohio; his brother, Henry R. “Rodney” Summerfield & his wife Wilma, Niles, Ohio; his sisters, Floda A. Callihan & her husband Fred, Girard, Edna E. Carrington & her husband Butch, Rootstown, Ohio, and Darlene R. Dixon & her husband Tim, Portsmouth; his five grandchildren, Taylor Haynes & her husband Derreck, Amber & Josh Summerfield, Kathryn & Claire Summerfield; and several nieces & nephews.

A time of gathering to honor Ora will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, from 12-1 PM at the First Baptist Church, 7 E. Kline Street, Girard, Ohio 44420. His celebration continues with a memorial service immediately following at 1 PM.

As suggested by his family, material contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church, 7 E. Kline St., Girard, OH 44420.
