Norman Mckelvey

Norman McKelvey, of Masury, Ohio, passed away at 1:11 PM Thursday, February 1, 2018, while a patient in the Emergency Room of UPMC Horizon – Shenango Campus, Farrell, Pennsylvania, following a sudden illness. He was 79.

Norman was born August 28, 1938, in Patagonia, Pennsylvania, a son to Frank & Mabel (Ewing) McKelvey.

A 1956 graduate of Brookfield High School, he began working for G.A.T.X., Masury. He remained at the plant for around 28 years before it closed. He then found employment as an equipment operator with the Brookfield Township Road Department until he finally retired after 16 years of service. For many years, he was a volunteer fireman within the township as well.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, cheering on Dale Jr. to victory. In addition, he liked watching professional sports, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, gardening and fishing were his favorite activities.

Survivors include: his wife, the former Katherine H. Schmidt, whom he married August 6, 1988; and many nieces and nephews too.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eleanor Reed; & brother, Billy McKelvey.

In accordance to his wishes, no calling hours or services will be held.
