Maxine Martin

October 23, 1923 — September 17, 2017

Maxine Martin formerly of Vienna, Ohio, and a current resident of Countryside at the Elmwood Assisted Living, Hubbard, Ohio, was ushered into the Presence of her Lord and Savior at 2:25 AM Sunday, September 17, 2017, following an extended illness. She was 93.

Maxine was born in Monroe County, Ohio on October 23, 1923, a daughter to Carlton B. & Elizabeth (Boettner) Clegg.

She graduated from Jackson Milton High School in 1941 and throughout her working career, held several different positions. Most notably was secretary and organist for Corinth Assembly of God, later becoming Rock of Grace, Kinsman, Ohio. In addition, she had worked the assembly line for Packard Electric, and was a classroom aide at Corinth Christian Academy.

Her faith in God was central in her life and she faithfully served in her churches, beginning with Corinth Assembly and now Victory Christian Center as part of the deacon, ushering and greeting teams. Likewise, she participated in the Women's Ministry of Corinth Assembly of God, Sunday School Teacher, as well as the PTA of Mathews Schools. What she enjoyed above all else was spending time with her dear family and friends, and playing our favorite board game of aggravation. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, sewing, and painting, a recent ribbon winner at the Boardman YMCA, and a participant at the 2017 Canfield Fair. She was known as an excellent pie maker, often hosting and serving home-cooked meals to those she loved.

Survivors include: her son, James E. Martin, Fowler, Ohio; her daughters, Janet E. Clark (Carl), Rootstown, Ohio, and Dianne R. Mackey (Tod), Vienna, Ohio; her  six grandchildren, Doug Broadway (Susan), Jamie Hamrick (Brian), Kristin Gorse (Tom), Tod Justin "TJ" Mackey, Stephen Mackey, Jordan Mackey; her eight great-grandchildren, Gary Broadway, Lindsey Broadway, Jacob Broadway, Ian Broadway, Christopher Hamrick, Abby Hamrick, Jacob Hamrick, Joshua Hamrick; her four great-great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kaydence, Mia, & Alex; and her in-laws, Marl "Bud" Martin (Helen), and Virginia Mounier.

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart & husband of 73 years, Earl Martin, whom she eloped to marry on October 30, 1940, who passed away on her 90th birthday on October 23, 2013; and by her brothers, Forrest, Woodrow, James, & Wayne Clegg.

A time of gathering to honor Maxine’s life will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017, from 4-6 PM at Victory Christian Center, 3899 McCartney Rd., Lowellville, Ohio 44436. Her celebration continues with service beginning at 6 PM in the church. She will be laid to rest in Dugan Cemetery next to her beloved Earl, “together again”.
