Larry V. Smoot, Sr.

Larry V. Smoot, Sr., of Brookfield, Ohio, went home during the late hours on Monday, June 2, 2025, while a patient in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 74.

Larry was born on July 3, 1950, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son to Edward & Mary (Hill) Smoot.

He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1969 and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, where he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Larry married his high school sweetheart, the former Lois Lyth, and together they started a family. They welcomed sons, Larry Jr., Brian, David, and Steven, into the world.

He earned a respectable living as an independent truck driver operating over 40 years under his enterprise, Larry Smoot Trucking. In addition, he had also worked briefly for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, now known as Conrail.

In his spare time, Larry enjoyed gardening, watching the Cleveland Guardians, and relaxing in his backyard with his dog, Buster. However, he was most proud of his boys and their accomplishments. Furthermore, his grandchildren held a special place in his heart.

Survivors include: his lifelong companion, Lois Lyth-Smoot; sons, Larry Smoot, Jr. (Christine), of Brookfield, Brian Smoot (Keri), of Medina, Ohio, David Smoot, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Steven Smoot (Courtney), of Brookfield; grandchildren, Matthew Smoot, Nathaniel Smoot, Nicholas Smoot, Sadi Smoot, Kaylie Smoot, & Bryson Smoot; sisters, Linda Kurtzman, of Greenville, Pennsylvania, Susan Levering, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Becky Terkhorn, of Seymour, Indiana; as well as his beloved dog, Buster.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ed Smoot.

In accordance with his wishes, no calling hours or services will be held. Larry wanted to be remembered as he was in life, caring and kind.
