Larry Dean Weingart, known to many as “Ike”, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on September 23, 2025, at the age of 87.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Werner and Alta (Clay) Weingart; stepmother, Betty Weingart; siblings, James Weingart, Wanda Julian, Jean Krepps, Dolores Richard, Shirley Phillips, and Elsie Myers; as well as a great-grandson, Greyson Weingart.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Weingart; sisters, Gloria Hum, Linda Brutz, and Karen Ozenghar; children, Jeff Weingart (Kim), and Brenda Weingart; grandchildren, Bryan Weingart (Dacia), Cody Pfouts, and Katelyn Pfouts; great-grandchildren, Owen and Bennett Weingart; and great-grandpuppy, Winnie.
Larry was born at home on his family’s farm in Salem, Ohio, on October 25, 1937. He graduated from Goshen High School in 1956. A man defined by his unwavering work ethic, Larry spent much of his life as a plumber by trade, dedicating 43 years to his craft, most notably with Ellyson Plumbing in Salem. He married his beloved wife, Patricia Williamson, on February 16, 1961, in Winchester, Virginia. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961, proudly serving at the rank of Private First Class. He was honorably discharged in 1963.
After his retirement from the plumbing trade, he developed a passion for woodworking. In his treasured woodshop, Larry always had a project underway and was known for his beautiful cutting boards that he gave to many in his neighborhood. His other hobbies included planting a fruitful garden, watching NASCAR, feeding and watching the dozens of squirrels and birds that visited his backyard daily.
A devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, he spent his later years cherishing time with his wife, their children, and their growing family. He found joy in watching his grandkids and great-grandkids grow, always there with a smile. He was a regular attendee of the Weingart Family Breakfast, where his warm presence was always felt, and his stories were shared with all.
Larry could never go anywhere without knowing someone, and his impact on those around him will be felt for generations to come.
He will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing him. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all their extended family and a special thanks to the staff at Ohio Living Hospice.
