Kenneth E. “KD” Durst, Jr., of Sharon, Pennsylvania, unexpectedly passed from this life on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the Emergency Room of the UPMC – Shenango Campus, from natural causes following a sudden illness. He was 63.

Kenneth was born January 23, 1963, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a son to Kenneth E. Durst, Sr. & Clara Rose (Young) Durst.

He was a 1981 graduate of Brookfield High School and was a proud member of the ’78 State Championship Football Team.

He was currently working for NLMK, Farrell Plant, as a water tender & millwright and had plans to retire at the end of this year. He had dedicated 26 years of service to the industry with Duferco, Howell Industries, Sharon Steel, and lastly NLMK.

Furthermore, some folks may remember him working as a custodian for the Brookfield Local Schools.

Ken was a member of the United Steelworkers Union #1016-03. Additionally, he was part of the “old guard” who selflessly served his hometown community for many years as a Fireman and EMT with the Brookfield Township Volunteer Fire Department.

In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, fishing, hunting, and dirt track racing. However, spending time with his family and friends is what he loved the most.

Ken was a simple man who understood the importance of family and friends. He will definitely be missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cynthia Marie (Missik) Durst, whom he married September 19, 2008; his children, Melissa Sipe (Jeff), of Howland, Ohio, Kenneth Durst, III, Meghan Shearer (Rob), both of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Paige Wasko, of Sharon; his grandchildren, Camden, Colson, Lorelei, Calista, Harper, Jacob, & Lincoln; his father, Ken Sr., of Masury, Ohio; his siblings, Tina Davies (Jeff), of King George, Virginia, and George Durst, Masury; as well as many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and by his grandparents.

A time of gathering to honor Ken’s life will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 3-7 PM, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, located at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. A closing prayer will conclude the evening. He will be laid to rest in the Brookfield Township Cemetery.
