Josephine M. “Josie” Baker, of Brookfield, Ohio, formerly of Hubbard, gracefully and peacefully began her new life in Heaven on Friday, November 14, 2014, while a patient in the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio, as her family’s love surrounded her. She was 88.
Josie was born December 11, 1925, at home in Masury, Ohio, a daughter to Louis & Louise (Furillo) Talone. A short time later, the family Americanized by changing their last name to Daly.
After graduating from Brookfield High School in 1944, she fell in love with Robert J. “Bud” Baker. They exchanged vows on April 3, 1948 in St. Bernadette Catholic Church and together started a family. To this union three children were born, Linda, Patty, and Bruce.
Josephine was proud to be a homemaker to her family. In addition, she also worked at the former Valley View Department Store in both the Carpet and Sporting Goods departments.
She was a devout Catholic who belonged to the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, St. Bernadette Catholic Parish, Masury. She also had memberships in the Maennerchor and Saxton Clubs, both Youngstown, Ohio.
In her spare time, Josie enjoyed playing golf, bowling, Bingo, skip-o card game, and knitting scarves, hats & gloves. For over 11 years, she & Bud wintered in Seminole, Florida, where she was known as the "sunshine girl" to the neighborhood & marina.
She is survived by: her husband, the love of her life, Bud; her children, Linda Gibson & her husband Toby, Patty Baker, and Bruce Baker & his wife Judy, all of Brookfield; her siblings, Art Daly & his wife Connie, and Margie Jones, all of Brookfield; her eight grandchildren; and her nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her granddaughter, Rachel Baker; by her brother, Frank Daly; and by her brother-in-law, Robert Jones.
A time of gathering to honor Josie’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, from 10-12 PM in her church, St. Bernadette, 7800 Locust Street, Masury, Ohio 44438. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12 noon. She will be laid to rest with family in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
