Joseph Floyd Sprague

Joseph Floyd Sprague, of Warren, Ohio, formerly of Brookfield, Ohio, passed into eternal life on Friday, August 21, 2026, while a patient at Washington Square Health Care Center, Warren, following a period of declining health. He was 78.

Joseph was born on November 8, 1947, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son to Leo E. & Hilda M. (Hansen) Sprague.

After graduating from Hubbard High School in 1965, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army to defend our flag and help keep our country free. He was assigned to Company B, 5th Battalion, 6th Infantry, 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas, Fourth U.S. Army. His decorations and citations include: Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars Combat Infantry Badge, Marksman with a pistol, Sharpshooter with a rifle, and an Expert with a 81 mm mortar. He was honorably discharged from his duties with the rank of Corporal.

Following his return home, Floyd attended Youngstown State University on the G.I. Bill. He found employment as a foreman at Jennings Manufacturing, Masury, Ohio. After the plant closed, he worked at Packard Electric and Sharon Steel before he retired.

He was a member of the former St. Bernadette Catholic Church and the former Masury VFW Post #8860.

In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking on the grill & spit, hunting, fishing, and gambling, not necessarily in that order.

Survivors include: daughter, Miranda Sprague, of Brookfield; sisters, Virginia Blair (Jim), of Niles, Ohio, Sandy Patrick (Gil), of Williamsburg, Virginia, Mary Ellen Sprague, of Austintown, Ohio, and Missy Syersak (Steve), of Orangeville, Ohio; as well as many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Monica (Fidram) Sprague; brother, Leo E. Sprague, Jr; and sister, Roberta "Bobbie" G. Sprague.

In accordance with his wishes, no public services will be held. He will be laid to rest in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors.
