Joann Thompson

JoAnn R. Thompson, of Brookfield, Ohio, gracefully went to sleep at 7:25 PM on Sunday, January 22, 2017, while a patient at the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio, following an extended illness. She was 82.

Ms. JoAnn was born at home in Masury, Ohio, on December 8, 1934, a daughter to Harold & Anna Jane (Eckley) Suttles, Sr.

After graduating from Brookfield High School in 1952, she married her sweetheart, a gentleman by the name of Robert L. Thompson. Together they started a family and born to this union were four sons: Robert Jr., David, Jeffrey, & Scott.

In addition to being a homemaker for her young family, she worked side-by-side with her husband to create their insurance business legacy.

Her memberships included: Brookfield United Methodist Church; Order of the Eastern Star #518, Hartford, Ohio; VFW Ladies Golf League & "Tammie's Swingers" at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, both in Hermitage; Pennsylvania; and the Ohio Valley Lincoln Club.

In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, sincerely loved gambling, especially the "penny slots", and her work opening and distributing the mail at Gibson Insurance Agency everyday was her sanctuary. However, spending time with her grandchildren & great-grandkids, pleased her immensely.

She is survived by: her boys, Robert L. Thompson, Jr. (Dawn), Hubbard, Ohio, David A. Thompson (Beverly Madonio), Rootstown, Ohio, Jeffrey L. Thompson, Mineral Ridge, Ohio, and D. Scott Thompson, Masury; her 11 grandchildren, Lauren, Bob III, Abbey, Annie, Amber, Andrew, Ashley, Tristan, Tanner, Tyler, & Tori; her 7 great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews too.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband Bob, whom she married on November 21, 1953, he passed on October 18, 2008; and by her brothers, Willard, Harold, Jr., & Gordon Suttles.

A time of gathering in Mrs. Thompson’s honor will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017, from 4-7 PM at Briceland Funeral Service, located on the historic village green at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. An O.E.S. funeral ceremony will conclude our evening. On Friday, January 27, 2017, at 11:00 AM, a celebration of life service will be held in the Brookfield United Methodist Church, located at 6951 Grove Street. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
