Georgia Louise Burks-Drakes, of Farrell, Pennsylvania, transitioned from this life on Sunday, August 3, 2025, following a sudden illness. She was 76.

Georgia’s sunrise was on September 29, 1948, in Lackey, Virginia, as she was born a daughter to Percy Burks and Mattie L. (Andrew) Burks.

She graduated in 1966 from James Weldon High School, where she was a drum major. She furthered her education at Truman College, Chicago, Illinois.

Georgia worked as a warehouse supervisor at Avon Cosmetics, Glenview, Illinois. In addition, she worked at the Prince of Peace, Farrell.

She was a member of the Greater Pentecostal House of Prayer in Farrell.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gambling and shopping. She was an avid reader who also liked going to her Bible Study. However, she was a caregiver to many who needed her compassionate love and caring heart.

Survivors include: her children, Doris L. Sims (Billy), O.C. Burks, Lavon A. Drakes, and Tyrone X. Drakes, all of Farrell; grandchildren, Khella J. Barfield, Shunequa S. Burks, Jada S. Burks, Jordan O. Burks, Deshari D. Berry, Jalen B. Drakes, Zavon D. Drakes, Jason B. Chandler, and Jashay Watkins; great-grandchildren, Terence Hopson, Jr., Tokyo S. Hopson, Harmony Craig, and Knowledge J. Clark; sisters, Marie Griggs, Rosemary Chapman, both of Farrell, and Katie Mullins, of Dallas, Texas; special sister, Delores "LoLo" Louden; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as her caregiver, Luscious White.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.C. Drakes, whom she married August 29, 1996, he passed June 18, 2011; son, Sephas D. Burks; and brothers, Percy A. Burks, Sr. & Cephas Burks, Sr.

A time of gathering to honor Georgia’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at the Greater Pentecostal House of Prayer, 725 Fruit Avenue, Farrell, Pennsylvania 16121. A Memorial Home Going Service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM, by officiant, Pastor Sandra M. Green. She will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, Pennsylvania.
