Flora “Florie” E. Smith, of Brookfield, Ohio.
Passing in her home surrounded by family, Florie was called to a new home on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at age 78, following an extended illness.
She was born February 21, 1943, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to Abraham & Laurabelle (Rickert) Haynie, graduated from Brookfield High School in 1961, and further studied Home Economics at Kent State University.
Florie married Daniel G. Smith on March 20, 1965. Together they have two children, Daniel J. and Anita.
In the finest tradition of homemaking, Florie was known for keeping an impeccable home. A life-long member of the Brookfield Christian Church, she was recognized for 52 years of perfect attendance, and was as well a Sunday School Teacher at the church. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star #518, Hartford, Ohio (currently Opal Chapter #181 of O.E.S., Cortland, Ohio); and Rainbow Girls.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, yoga, gardening, cooking, her golf league and listening to her granddaughter A.J. sing; but more than all, she loved her church and family.
Florie will be best remembered as a strong witness to the love of Jesus Christ, encouraging others on their journey, her smile, and her signature “wink”.
Survivors include: her husband, Daniel; Children: Daniel J. (Chrissy Babos-Smith) Smith of Sharpsville, and Anita Smith (Pete), of Brookfield; Grandchildren: A.J., Ian (Michelle), and Trevor Smith, and Abraham "My Guy" Mrofchak; Great-grandchildren: Aubrey Smith, Jacklynn and Renee Munnal; Brother: Jim (Penny) Haynie, Liberty Twp., Ohio; and her favorite cousin, Susan Heath.
Preceding her in death are her parents, a brother William F. Haynie; and sisters Rose Moffett and Shirley Van Slyke.
A time of gathering in honor of Florie will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from 2 to 4 PM, in the Brookfield Christian Church, located on the Historic Village Green of Brookfield Center. Her celebration continues with an O.E.S. service and funeral service at 4:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
As suggested by her family, material contributions can be made to the Brookfield Christian Church, P.O. Box 42, Brookfield, Ohio 44403.
