Edith E. De Vite, longtime resident of Masury, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, following a period of declining health. She was 97.

Edith was born in Reelsboro, North Carolina, on September 18, 1926, a daughter to Jesse W. & Zilpha (Brinson) Holton.

She graduated in 1943 from Bath High School, Bath, North Carolina, and in 1948 from James Walker Memorial Hospital. This was the last class to graduate from that school. Edith then became a Cadet Nurse for the U.S. Navy. She received a gold medal and scholarship for a perfect score on her state board exam. She was a registered nurse for more than 20 years at Sharon Regional Hospital. In addition, she also worked at the Northside Hospital, Youngstown, Ohio, and James Walker Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, North Carolina. She was proud to be licensed in 3 states.

Her memberships include: Brookfield Christian Church; Order of Eastern Star #518, Hartford, Ohio (now Cortland Opal Chapter #181); and Brookfield Girl Scouts, she happened to be the 1st troop leader in Brookfield.

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading the Bible, shopping, and working crossword and word find puzzles. She absolutely loved talking on the telephone. She always had to have her contact list ready in hand. Ma Bell will definitely miss her favorite customer.

Survivors include: daughters, Sharon Holler and her husband Dan, of Linesville, Pennsylvania, and Suzanne Carter Barner and her husband Dr. David Barner, of Mercer, Pennsylvania; son, Daniel Paul De Vite and his wife Kim, of Masury; grandchildren, Tracey Rose and her husband Steve, James Lohr and his fiance' Wendy, John Albin Carter, Jr. and his wife Suzanne, James Earl Carter, & Aimee Carter Peters and her husband Chris Peters; great-grandchildren, Matt (Kira), Justin, and Ava Rose, Kolbe, Jaxin, Rieyn, and Knoxx Lohr, Jac, Zac, and Claire Carter, Jayne, Catherine, and Nathan Peters; half-sisters, Melva Pridgen and her husband Charles, and Rose Cushing and her husband Rodney; as well as numerous relatives in North Carolina.
