Dr. Delores Uber

Dr. Delores Ann Uber, of Hubbard, Ohio, Brookfield Township, entered life eternal on Saturday, May 7, 2016, while a patient at Arbor Terrace of Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, following an extended illness. She was 77.

Delores was born on March 3, 1939, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to Russell E. & Stella L. (Hibler) Hacker.

She graduated from Brookfield High School in 1957.  Upon graduation she began working as a secretary to the personnel manager at General American Transportation Corporation, Masury, Ohio.  After getting her children in school she herself returned to school.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1971 from Youngstown State University. Upon graduation she began her teaching career at Morgandale Elementary in Howland. During this time, she continued her studies to obtain a Master of Science in Education degree in 1975 from YSU. To gain more experience, she moved to Howland Middle School to teach seventh grade Mathematics and English. She later accepted the position of Principal, which she held from 1979 until 1981. In 1981, she became middle school principal for the Lakeview Board of Education. Here she remained the middle school principal until 1990. During this time, she furthered her education to achieve the pinnacle of education, her Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1991 from Kent State University. She then assumed the position of administrative assistant in charge of curriculum and instruction as well as assistant superintendent for Lakeview Schools. She retired there in 2008.

Her memberships throughout her career included: Ohio School Boards Association; Buckeye Association of School Administrators; Phi Delta Kappa; Delta Kappa Gamma Society; Alpha Delta State; and Beta Chi Chapter where she served many positions, including president. Additionally, Dr. Uber was honored with numerous awards. She was the recipient of many accolades for her educational integrity. She was also a member and Deaconess of the former Slope Congregational Church in Brookfield. She later attended the Corner House Christian Church, in Hubbard.

In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, playing cards, Scrabble, and of course, reading and shopping.

She is survived by: her children, Laurie Richter and her husband Clay, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and Ronald Uber and his wife Paula, Naperville, Illinois; her grandchildren, Cara Wright and her husband Jonathan, Amy Polishchuk and her husband Yevgen, Kelsey Tompkins and her husband Paul, Jaxson Richter, Matthew Uber and Kyle Uber; her great-grandchildren, Braden, Nicholas, and Madison Wright. Also surviving are her siblings, Judith K. Hacker, Hubbard, Joyce E. Page and her husband Robert, Coral Springs, Florida, Kenneth R. Hacker, Phoenix, Arizona, Ted Hacker and his wife Janey, Dayton, Ohio, and Don Hacker and his wife Jerilyn, Hubbard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Mark D. Stevens; and by her nephews, Jeffrey L. Page and Brian P. Hacker.

A time of gathering to honor Dr. Uber will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM at Briceland Funeral Service, located on the historic village green at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. Prior to the time of gathering, at 5:45 pm, her Beta Chi sorority sisters will honor her with a Necrology prayer service. A Celebration of Life Service will be offered on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11 AM in the Corner House Christian Church, 6954 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Hubbard, Ohio 44425. She will be laid to rest with her family in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
