Charles "Pastor Bill" Stevens

Charles William “Pastor Bill” Stevens, of Vienna, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 1, 2019. He was 91.

Born September 3, 1927, in Hartford, Ohio, he was the son of the late Claude and Lillian (McCoy) Stevens, and the husband of the late Colleen “Jean” (Bobo) Stevens, with whom he enjoyed 60 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his three sisters (Mildred, Mardine, and Opal), and his four brothers (Lester, Vaughn, Marvin, and Claude Jr., who lost his life serving his country as a Marine in WW II).

Bill joined the Civil Air Patrol in 1942, and shortly after, joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 16. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps when he was 17 and fought in WW II. Following his return from the war, he worked as an auto body specialist both in Ohio and California. Bill also worked as a claims adjuster for Nationwide Insurance.

In 1967, Bill answered the call to pastoral ministry. Together with his wife, he served churches in Brookfield, Vienna, and Warren, Ohio, until his retirement in 2016 at the age of 88.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Darlene (Thomas) Hawley of Auburn, Ohio; his son, Rich (Tami) Stevens of Warren, Ohio; and 3 grandchildren, Tara Hawley (Andrew Blickensderfer), Brent Hawley, and Erin Stevens.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Victory Christian Center of Vienna, 5000 Warren-Sharon Rd. Vienna, Ohio, from 3-7:00 PM. Military Honors will take place at 7:00 PM and a Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow with Pastor Daniel Houck officiating. All arrangements handled by Briceland Funeral Home, Brookfield, Ohio.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Brookfield Township Cemetery, Brookfield, Ohio.
