Bruce E. Gething

October 19, 1953 — April 10, 2024

Brookfield

Bruce E. Gething, of Brookfield, Ohio, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024, following a lengthy illness. He was 70 years old.

Bruce was born on October 19, 1953 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son to Edward B. & Barbara A. (Garish) Gething.

Upon graduating from Brookfield High School in 1971, Bruce began his career at the Sharon Tube Company. He was a hardworking, dependable employee, and his unwavering commitment to his work was evident to all. In 2005, he retired as a foreman in the shipping department.

During his retirement, Bruce enjoyed golfing at his favorite course, Yankee Run, where he especially loved and cherished the memories of Friday league play. He also worked as a cart attendant there.

Bruce was of strong faith and was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Parish in Vienna, Ohio and formerly attended St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Masury where he was on the Parish Council.

He was also on the planning committee for the ECHO (Every Classmate Helping Others) Charitable Foundation for fourteen years. It was founded by members of his graduating class.

Bruce loved the outdoors and always made the most of every day, whether it was maintaining his immaculate yard, golfing, or above all, playing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking and crafted many special items for his children in their younger years, from cradles to rocking horses to even a backyard play set. He was also fond of classic cars, especially his 1974 Corvette Stingray—his most prized possession, which he kept in pristine condition.

A fiercely devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bruce loved nothing more than spending quality time with his family. He found immense happiness in their company, cherishing every moment spent with them.

Bruce never let his health issues define him and always remained positive. He was a very caring and thoughtful man—a kind and gentle spirit who always believed in placing the needs of others before his own. He will be greatly missed.

Mourning his loss are his wife, Angela M. (DeFuria) Gething, whom he married August 15, 1981; children, Brian E. (Chianne) Gething, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Katie L. (Matthew, Sr.) Barca, of Hubbard, Ohio; grandchildren, Siena L. & Aviana L. Gething, Mara M., Stella L., & Matthew J. Barca, Jr.; sister, Carol A. Perrone (Michael “Chuck”), of Boynton Beach, Florida; as well as many loving relatives and his very special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Sarah E. Gething, next to whom he will be laid to rest in the Brookfield Township Cemetery.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. His family will honor him privately.
