Annie Bell “Nuit” Hughes, of Farrell, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, after an extended illness at the Embassy Healthcare Services. She was 94 years old.

Mrs. Hughes was born on November 27, 1931, to Henry and Mamie Lee (Brown) Lewis.

Mrs. Hughes attended and graduated from Greenville Training Vocational School on May 29, 1951.

She left Alabama and moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1957, where she began working as a nurse’s aide until 1969.

She then relocated to Farrell, where she began working for Dr. Theodore Yarboro, at his private practice.

She attended the Mercer County Vocational School, graduated on January 26, 1976, and was recognized as the top student in food service.

Shortly thereafter, she began her career at Sharon Regional Hospital in the dietary department. Later achieving the title of head cook and retiring on December 1, 1996.

Upon arriving in Farrell, Annie joined and became a longtime member of First Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Ira B. Lavigne. She was a very dedicated member of the inspirational choir. Deservingly, she held the title of vice president, choir director, and lead soloist. Annie received an award from Barbara Blue “Legendary Men and Women Award” on October 20, 2024.

She inspired many across the Shenango Valley community with her unwavering, glorious, anointed, and loving voice.

Annie was joined in holy matrimony on May 4, 1997, to Samuel Hughes. They enjoyed 15 loving years until his death on April 12, 2012.

She leaves behind a legacy of daughters, Deborah (Larry) Harris, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Tara Patrice Lewis, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, and bonus daughters, Devon Hughes and Doris Campbell, both of Bay Springs, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Cominique (Lamont) Bryant, of Hermitage, Dior (Lance) Maclin, of Garden City, Michigan, Sean (Marissa) Harris, of Dearborn, Michigan, and Trinity Webster, of Hermitage; seven great-grandchildren, Brianna Parchman, Carmone Parchman, Jr., both of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Jerrell Malloy, of Farrell, Jermaine Cornelius, of Hermitage, London Maclin, Lance Maclin, Jr., and Lacey Maclin, all of Garden City; one great-great-grandchild, Ellionna Parchman; two sisters, Clattie Tiggitt, and Patricia Scott, both of Warren, Ohio; brother, Michael Lewis, of Warren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cassandra Pacheco; two bonus sons, Lemuel and Lamont Hughes; grandson, Carmone Parchman, Jr., and two sisters, Gertie Armstrong and Mamie Evans.

A Home Going Service in her honor will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM, in her church, First Baptist, located at 1120 Darr Avenue, Farrell, Pennsylvania, 16121. Family and friends may pay their respects from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, also in the church. She will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
