Andrew "Andy" Thomas

Andrew “Andy” G. Thomas, of Brookfield, Ohio, entered eternal rest at his home surrounded by the love of his family at 8:00 AM Saturday, January 12, 2019, following a period of declining health. He was 87.

Andy was born on September 13, 1931, at home in Girard, Ohio, a son to Andy and Helen (Soltesiz) Thomas.

He graduated in 1949 from Vienna High School and furthered his education at Youngstown College. On January 15, 1951, he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from his duties on December 11, 1953.

He married the love of his life, Juanita M. Black, on November 19, 1955, and together they raised three children: Kenneth, Lisa, and Lori. Andy was very proud of his Hungarian heritage.

Andy supported his young family working as a security guard for Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company and Valley View Department Store.

He was a member of the Hubbard American Legion Post #51. In his spare time, he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family at his camp at Lake Erie. He had an abundance of love for his dogs: Maggie, Muffin, and his current companion, Molson.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Juanita; his children, Kenneth R. Thomas (Joyce), Brookfield, Lisa A. Curry (Jay), Brookfield, and Lori A. Durig (Robert), Warren, Ohio; his five grandchildren, Kevan Thomas (companion, Flisha), Crystal Curry, Eric Curry, Stephanie Garito (Dennis), and Marcus Durig; and his great-granddaughter, Madison Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph J. Thomas.

A time of gathering to honor Andy will be held from 2-4 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2019, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. His celebration continues with a memorial service at 4 PM with military honors.

His family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Hubbard American Legion Post #51, c/o Ron Wright, 557 Dorchester Dr., Hubbard, Ohio 44425.
