Allen "Mike" Popowich

March 30, 1930 — July 19, 2018

Allen E. “Mike” Popowich of Fowler, Ohio, entered into the celestial lodge above at 12:05 PM Thursday, July 19, 2018, while at home and surrounded by the love of his family, following an extended illness. He was 88.

Mike was born March 30, 1930, at home in Howland Township, Ohio, a son to Howard C. & Helen (Clark) Popowich.

A 1948 graduate of Howland High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army to defend our flag and to help keep our country free. His decorations and citations include the Occupational Medal Germany and a Good Conduct Medal.  He was honorably discharged from his duties with the rank of Sergeant.

Following his return home, he married a gal by the name of Joanne Stein on September 5, 1953. Together, they started a family and born to this union were five children; Michael, Judith, Bonnie, Melissa, and Lisa.

He supported his family working as an Artos Cutter at the Packard Electric Warren Plant of General Motors for 39 years before his retirement. In addition, he worked as a lather in construction while in Florida.

Mike was a member of the Howland Community Church; Charter member of Copper Penny #778 F&AM, Vienna, where he served as Past-Master; and a 32 degree mason with the Ancient Accepted Order of Scottish Rite Valley, Youngstown, Ohio.

In his spare time, he was woodworking, puzzles, gardening, yard work, reading, playing cards.

Survivors include: his wife, Joanne, Fowler; his children, Michael Howard Popowich, Fowler, Judith Louise Solomon (Larry), Union, Kentucky, Bonnie Lee Clower (Keith), Vienna, Melissa Ann Lipe (Terry), Austintown, Ohio, and Lisa Jo Rafferty (Kevin), Liberty Twp., Ohio; his 5 grandchildren; his 7 ½ great-grandchildren (one on the way); his sister, Alice Dunlap, Howland Twp.; and his Auntie Liz Clark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur D. Popowich; and sister, Arlene Reynolds.

A Private Masonic Service will be held for his immediate family.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Copper Penny Lodge (or) Fowler Township Volunteer Fire Department, both c/o the funeral home.
